The T.W. Sullivan Power Plant is the oldest operating electric power plant built on the west coast (USA).
The original plant was built in 1889, but was destroyed in a flood in 1890.
It was rebuilt under the direction of T.W. Sullivan for whom the power plant is named.
The original plant was built on the east side of the river and was called station A.
The demand for electrical power quickly outpaced the capability of the station A plant,
so a new plant, Station B was built on the west side of the river in 1895.
Station A was abandoned in 1897 as Station B was more suitable to expanding operations
for the increasing demands for electric power.

The T.W. Sullivan power plant is located on the Willamette river falls between West Linn and Oregon City.
The Sullivan power plant also has the designation of being the first to provide
long distance power (from Oregon City to Portland, 14 miles away).
The electricity was used to provide power for Portland's electric street lights.
The electricity was also used to provide power to the paper mills and other growing
industries along the river.

The T.W. Sullivan power plant is still owned and operated by Portland General Electric (PGE).
